The Rotary Club of Rio de Janeiro Maracanã develops several projects each year, and among them is the collection of pull tabs from beverage cans as well as plastic caps, whether from drinks or from other products such as shampoos, personal hygiene items and cleaning products.
The objective of this collection is to raise funds through the sale of these pull tabs and plastic caps for the acquisition, for example, of wheelchairs or hygiene chairs. For the success of this initiative, club members, their families and friends are involved. To give an idea of the volume required, in order to reach the amount needed to purchase one wheelchair it is necessary to collect approximately 120 two liter PET bottles filled with pull tabs.
This project of the Rotary Club of Rio de Janeiro Maracanã is carried out in partnership with students from Colégio Batista Shepard, located on José Higino Street in Tijuca, where students are encouraged to practice citizenship and, in this case, to support people with limited mobility who need assistance in their daily activities, such as personal hygiene.
Since the beginning of the year, the Rotary Club of Rio de Janeiro Maracanã has delivered approximately 30 PET bottles to the students of the school.
In the photo are the President of the Rotary Club of Rio de Janeiro Maracanã, Francisco Werneck, who delivered the second batch of pull tabs of the year to the person responsible for collecting the material at the school, its Chaplain, Pastor Claudeir Godoi.
With this initiative, the Rotary Club of Rio de Janeiro Maracanã continues its mission to promote social equity, within the Rotary spirit of serving society, identifying and promoting solutions aimed at building an increasingly better world.
