On June 30, 2020, Francisco José Werneck de Carvalho took office as the eighteenth President of the Rotary Club of Rio de Janeiro Maracanã, together with his Board of Directors, for the 2020-2021 term.

President Francisco José Werneck de Carvalho is a representative member of this Rotary Club in the classification of Medicine Nephrology. He joined Rotary in 2018, served as Director of Protocol during the 2019-2020 period and was elected President for the 2020-2021 term. The installation ceremony had a singular characteristic, as it was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Werneck was born in Leopoldina, Minas Gerais, on February 21, 1951. He is married to Helena Barros Campos de Carvalho and has three daughters, Ligia, Gerusa and Cecília, and one grandson, Hugo.

He graduated from the School of Medicine of Universidade Federal Fluminense and specialized in Nephrology through courses completed in Brazil and abroad.

He joined the Health Corps of the Brazilian Navy, his main professional activity, where he developed medical activities at the Naval Hospital Marcílio Dias, in addition to administrative functions such as Vice Director of Navy Health and Director of the Navy Health Logistics Center, reaching the rank of Captain.

He is a Full Professor and carried out teaching activities at the School of Medicine of Valença, Universidade Gama Filho and is currently a professor at the School of Medicine of Universidade Estácio de Sá, Città Campus.

In the scientific field, he has published several articles in medical journals, as well as works presented at congresses, book chapters and the publication of the book Nephrology in Geriatrics.

It was an excellent virtual installation ceremony at the Rotary Club of Rio de Janeiro Maracanã.
