On the morning of Saturday, October 18, 2025, the Clínica da Família Santa Marta, in Botafogo, hosted an action coordinated by Rotary Clubs from Rotary District 4571 of Rio de Janeiro, focused on public health and social mobilization. The event, held as part of the “D-Day Multivaccination” campaign, aimed to encourage the updating of vaccination records for children and adolescents and included a series of integrated activities combining immunization, recreation and awareness.
Organized by the Rotary Club of Rio de Janeiro with the support of several partner clubs, including the Rotary Club of Rio de Janeiro Maracanã, the action attracted families from the community and reinforced the importance of vaccination as a collective strategy for health protection.
The event offered not only the administration of vaccines included in the national immunization schedule, but also playful spaces for children and educational guidance for parents.
According to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Health, childhood vaccination coverage in Brazil remains below target levels for several essential vaccines. In 2023, coverage for the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine was approximately 83 percent, below the 95 percent recommended by the World Health Organization. Vaccine hesitancy, misinformation and access difficulties are among the main factors associated with the decline in coverage rates.
The choice of the Clínica da Família Santa Marta as the venue for the action also carries symbolic value. Located in one of Rio de Janeiro’s most emblematic communities, the unit serves a population marked by social challenges, but also by a strong network of community participation.
By bringing together child health and well-being in a single space, the Rotary Clubs promoted active citizenship, trust in institutions and a concrete gesture that prevention is a right for all, especially for those who need it most.
